Virtual scavenger hunts have become increasingly popular as they are something that anyone and everyone can get involved in! Indeed, when looking for virtual Christmas party ideas, a scavenger hunt should be top of your list.

But how do you make it as exciting as possible for your employees? Here are our top 10 ways to hold a virtual scavenger hunt that will make your employees excited...

1. Theme

First, you could theme your virtual holiday scavenger hunt to make it lots of fun and really exciting for your employees! Check out this list of ideas and themes to take it to the next level. Also, if you’re looking for technology to help you, Remo is fully customizable so you can bring all your virtual holiday party ideas to life!

2. Riddles

Next, to make your virtual holiday scavenger hunt more exciting and challenging, you can incorporate riddles! Here are some great examples:

  • “Can you find something which has keys that open no locks, with space but no room and allows you to enter but not go in?” The answer is a keyboard!
  • “The more I dry the wetter I become, what am I?” The answer is a towel!
  • “Cows swallow this blade, but it's not sharp or metal.” It’s grass!
  • “I start with an E, end with an E, and have a letter in me. What am I?” An envelope!

3. Group people intelligently

Your holiday party is a time for laughter and fun, so you want your employees to have a great time, while also having them bond with people who they may not know that well yet. This is where grouping people intelligently can really help. Split your employees into groups with some of their colleagues who they know well (and get on well with) and some others who they don’t know that well. Think about compatibility - do you think they would get on as a team? Have a mix of personality types in each group.

4. Word based

Also, a word-based virtual scavenger hunt is a great idea for any holiday party! This has your employees searching for items which represents the word you choose - so it’s about how each person interprets it. As an example, if you use the word ‘sunshine’, your employees may bring back sun tan lotion or sunglasses.

5. Time limit

In addition, you can set a time limit to make your virtual holiday scavenger hunt even more exciting and challenging. You could do this throughout the game or just for some of your questions to keep your employees on their toes!

6. Vary the difficulty

Have some easy wins for your employees to keep them engaged, but also have some tougher questions too.

7. Points mean prizes

Let your employees know that there are prizes on offer for the winners! Points should be awarded to those who get the items and within any time limits you set. Think about what your employees would most appreciate and go from there, but gift cards are always a welcome prize!

8. Worst outfit

This is a really fun challenge to set in your virtual scavenger hunt! Give your employees the chance to create their worst outfit, change into it and come back and show it off to everyone. You could give prizes for the worst or funniest outfit created and worn by employees!

9. Photos

Have people bring back old baby photos, family photos, childhood photos and pet photos. This will no doubt have your employees engaged and excited in your virtual holiday scavenger hunt!

10. Food & drink round

You could incorporate a food and / or drink round in your virtual holiday scavenger hunt which means getting people to run off and create something to bring back. Make this as easy or challenging as you like - for example you could have them make a cocktail or a sandwich. It’s not always easy to keep coming up with work holiday party ideas, but we hope that’s given you some inspiration!
